Unique Ayrshire

Come back to Ayrshire and enjoy a number of unique attractions as well as a year round programme of events and festivals.

Ayrshire is proud to be the home of poet Robert Burns and you can visit the newly refurbished Burns Cottage at Alloway as well as a host of other Burns landmarks throughout Ayrshire. A brand new state of the art Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is scheduled to open late in 2010.

Ayrshire is also the home of open golf and this year marks the 150th anniversary of when it all began here in Prestwick. Boasting two out of five of Scotland’s open championship venues, Turnberry and Royal Troon, you can be sure of a golfer’s welcome as you enjoy world class golf throughout Ayrshire including links, public and parkland courses.

Why not take in a little piece of history and visit our castles, estates and country parks, seeking out our hidden gems and landmarks along the way.

You will be amazed at our stunning coastlines and you can choose from our sprawling sandy, rugged or pebbly beaches for a great day out or visit the Ayrshire islands for the trip of a lifetime.

If you’re looking to be active in Ayrshire then our countryside playground offers boundless opportunities for walking, cycling, sailing, watersports and racing to name but a few or for arts and cultural experiences look no further than our charming museums, galleries and theatres.

The finest locally sourced food and drink is available to suit every taste and there’s lots of family and evening entertainment to suit all kinds of groups – including lots of fantastic Free Days Out!

Finally, our annual events programme is worth shouting about. The Burns an’ a’ that Festival is held in May each year, the quirky ‘Great Tartan Turnout’ takes place on St. Andrews weekend and ‘Alloway 1759’ offers a unique birthday celebration and commemoration of the birthplace and life of Robert Burns. This year a very special event ‘Sportember’ will see a month of sport and activities take place and of course our annual golf events take place over the summer months including in 2010 the 50th anniversary of Troon Golf Week. This is just a sample of the events on offer, check our calendar for the full programme.

Whether you are visiting on holiday, enjoying a short stay or on the lookout for a day trip you can look forward to a warm welcome when you come back to Ayrshire.
